Jacks or Better

Jacks or Better is a great video poker game that is easy to play and incredibly fast. It is run on the same principles as five-card draw poker except in this game there is no folding, no raising and no subsequent bets after the first bet has been placed.

The principle behind this game is very much as the name suggests. To win this game all you have to have is a pair of Jacks or better. Here you do not play against anyone. It is totally a case of what you hold in your hand that makes you a winner or not.

So start this game, you place your wager by either pressing the Bet One button or the Bet Max button. Once this is done five cards are drawn and placed face up. On the Video Poker Machine there is a “hold function” where you can choose which cards you wish to discard and which ones you wish to keep. The discarded cards are then taken away and replacement cards are dealt. This is now the end of the game and the value on your hand is ascertained.

A very basic knowledge of the ranking of poker cards needs to be known to play this game.

1. Royal Straight Flush
10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace all of the same suit.
2. Straight Flush
Five cards of the same suit such as 5-6-7-8-9
3. Four of a Kind
Four cards of the same value eg 8-8-8-8-2
4. Full House
A set of 3 cards of the same value together with a set of 2 cards of the same value
5. Flush
Five cards, all of the same suit, but not in numerical order
6. Straight
Five cards in numerical order, but not in the same suit.
7. Three of a Kind
Three cards of the same value
8. Two Pairs
Two sets of cards with the same numerical value.

Jacks or Better Video Poker is certainly a fun game to play and a game and a game that only requires a very basic knowledge of poker to enjoy.
